Weddings That Last
If you want to have a lot of money, you need to learn what people with a lot of money do to keep their money. Look for their common traits and work towards adopting those traits yourself. So if you know what millionaires do with their money, you can start doing the same things with the money you have.
They Invest Their Money
Saving and investing is the primary way millionaires accumulate their wealth. Look at your money as something to save and invest, not as a means to buy more stuff. Many millionaires live simple lives and don't stock up on luxuries. Those who have held millionaire status live below their means and luxuries are secondary. Those who have accumulated multiple millions that produce a low risk large income can afford to have more luxuries than the typical millionaire, but for them it is relatively simple compared to many of their peers. The difference is that they will be millionaires much longer than many of their peers.
With so many opportunities in this country, it is easy to get distracted from what you are doing. Millionaires who continue to be successful, however, are able to stay focused on their goals and resist the temptation to scatter their interests and resources among multiple pursuits. It isn't as exciting to stick with one thing for long periods of time, and the things you do to work toward that goal can be monotonous after a while. But that is how goals are ultimately achieved. It takes a long stint of focused effort to move out in front of the pack in whatever you do. So if you were to look at the lives of self-made millionaires, you would find rather simple resumes showing a history of focus and significant accomplishments along the way.
They Take Calculated Risks
You have to take risks to get ahead. Someone who is willing to take risks is someone who gets into trouble once in awhile. If you take a look at millionaire's personalities, you will find a lot of them have this trait in common. They are not afraid to take risks, and have probably failed at least once. The ones who become highly successful are the ones who pick themselves up after a catastrophic failure, and keep going. They don't just take risks for the sake of taking risk, however. They also know how to calculate it. Many people go by gut feel. In fact there are many financial professionals that guide their clients based on their gut feel for tolerance of risk. However, there is a much better way. They can actually calculate risk. The wealthy know how.
They Do What It Takes To Meet Goals
This is the trait of perseverance. They have the ability to stick with what they are doing long enough to break through the barriers to succeed. They are willing to get rich slowly. There are long stretches where it seems like what you are doing isn't working, but if you know what you are doing is the right thing, sticking with it eventually pays off. This is a really tough trait for most people because they often give up on their goals long before they achieve them because their success hasn't come on their own timetable. Many "success coaches" may even help create failure by putting too much emphasis on the time limitations of meeting your goal. You have to be realistic, and stick with it.
They Are Generous With What They Have
Probably the most important trait of all is generosity. When we have a lot of money, we need to protect our hearts. I have experienced this in my own live when I initially achieved success. My ego was a little too big, and it went to my head. That contributed to my eventually losing it. This is why many lottery winners soon return to the poorhouse. Giving a healthy portion of your money away to help others in need checks your attitude toward your money. If you have a generous heart, you are more likely to stay a millionaire.
