A Conservative Review of the Obama Administration Part 4 (Healthcare)

Weddings That Last
Healthcare has become quite an issue and has revealed some interesting things about how this administration operates. One interesting thing about this issue is that the numbers just don't add up. They plan to expand healthcare and pay for it by cutting waste from Medicare. Yet the bill actually expands Medicare. It is clear that shortages will occur. If the government becomes the "public" insurance company, they will be faced with the same issues as private insurance companies. There will be limited resources that will have to be allocated according to a plan. As much as the supporters of this bill deny there will be rationing of healthcare, it is apparent that they will either have to ration it to keep the program on budget, or they will have to put the government deeper in debt to fund the excessive liabilities they are creating with their promises. It isn't only the conservatives that see this. The New York Times even reported on this Nov. 22 nd , 2009.
There is also the question of the constitutionality of several aspects of this bill. For the first time in the history of this country, it would require citizens by law to purchase insurance or face fines to be collected by the IRS. The votes on this bill are being bought with deals that are adding immeasurable costs to the bill, which is exposing the extent of corruption in the legislative process. Members of congress are being bribed with taxpayer money, and the taxpayers aren't allowed to have a say in the decision. It makes us question whether there is still representation of the people who pay taxes in Washington. Lawmakers use the people's money to bribe other members of congress to get bills passed that the people would reject if they were presented in their own separate legislation.
The healthcare system is certainly a problem already. Since the time when health insurance started coming through employers rather than in the consumer marketplace, people have had to switch health plans every time they switched employers. As a result, the risk models have changed significantly and the coverage strategies catered to employer's needs instead of the end user. With the limits of portability of insurance and competition across state lines, things have really been screwed up and have caused the costs of the risks assumed by the insurance companies to skyrocket. As a result, premiums have skyrocketed. Since employers are the primary source of health insurance for Americans, it has been integrated into union contract benefit negotiations.
Union member employee benefits and pensions have inflated the cost of employees significantly. Investors Business Daily reported that GM had to spend $103 billion in the past 15 years funding pensions. That is $7 billion a year, which is more than their capital spending for new car models in 2009. The LA Times reported that $2000 is integrated into the price of new cars to pay for employee retirement and healthcare. The pensions given to union members are unsustainable and will likely be nationalized when the pensions fail. Government pensions are also failing adding at least $2 trillion to the federal budget deficit.
The Healthcare bill is the single most important legislation for the progressive agenda. It will provide control over citizens in a new way that will nudge us to make the decisions they want us to make in what we eat, what we set our thermostat at, where we live, and who we work for among other things. It will allow them to redefine our constitutional rights to include healthcare. When the government begins to grant rights, which our constitution defines as what is endowed by our creator, they can also take rights away. They, in essence, play the role of God.
